Actor Darren Criss has been signed on
as a full-time series regular on the Fox musical-comedy Glee,
but Chord Overstreet has been dropped, PEOPLE.com reported.
Criss plays out-and-proud Dalton
Academy Warbler lead vocalist Blaine Anderson, who is currently
dating gay William McKinley High School student Kurt Hummel, played
by Chris Colfer.
Overstreet,whose father is country
music songwriter Paul Overstreet, joined the cast in season 2 to play
“trouty-mouth” choir member Sam Evans.
“Well its been a good yr too bad its
over,” the 22-year-old Overstreet tweeted on Friday. “Time for
summer and starting fresh.”
Later, Overstreet, who is currently on
the Glee Live Tour, messaged: “getting close to the end of the
tour, can't wait to start working on my album when i get home!! im
gonna go full on!”
Ironically, Overstreet was originally
recruited to play the part of Kurt's boyfriend, but producers altered
plans and paired Sam up with cheerleader Quinn, played by Diana
Agron.
Criss' debut performance singing a
cover of Katy Perry's Teenage Dream became one of the show's
biggest hits.
