Matthew Morrison, who plays Will
Schuester on the Fox musical-comedy hit Glee, says he admires
Chris Colfer's character's relationship with his father.
Colfer plays gay McKinley High student
Kurt Hummel. The choir boy landed his first boyfriend, Dalton
Academy Warblers star Blaine Anderson, played by newcomer Darren
Criss, on the show's second season.
Kurt's blue collar father Burt, played
by Mike O'Malley, responded positively in the show's first season to
his son's coming out.
“I love the relationship with Kurt
and his father, and I don't think it could have been done with any
other adult,” Morrison
told glossy Metrosource.
“I know a lot of that storyline is based on [Glee creator
Ryan Murphy] and what he wishes he had as a kid, things he wanted to
have and he didn't have. I think that relationship between Kurt and
his father is so beautiful and it just touches me to the core every
week.”
Morrison added that the believes Glee
is the gayest show on TV.
“I feel so lucky to be almost a part
of [the gay] community – having done Broadway and – to be on
pretty much the gayest show on TV right now,” he said.
In addition to five students on the
show being either gay, bisexual or questioning, several peripheral
characters are also gay, including Rachel Berry's yet-to-be-seen dads
and Sandy (The League of Doom's Pink Dagger.)
