Actor Chris Meloni has joined the Human
Rights Campaign's (HRC) New
Yorkers for Marriage Equality campaign.
“I believe in love and family and
fairness,” Meloni says in a 30-second ad. “That's why I'm a New
Yorker for marriage equality.”
“Already five states and the District
of Columbia have marriage equality. It's time for New York to lead
again. Join me in supporting New Yorkers for marriage equality.”

The 50-year-old Meloni, who played
bisexual on the HBO prison drama Oz and is best known for his
role on the NBC police drama Law & Order: Special Victims
Unit, is among the growing number of celebrities and prominent
politicians to record a video for the campaign that hopes to build
momentum on the issue now ahead of a
second attempt to legalize the institution in the state later this
Spring.
According
to a new poll released on Monday, a majority (58%) of New York
voters favor giving gay and lesbian couples the right to marry.
