Appearing in a new video urging New
Yorkers to support the legalization of gay marriage, actress Rosie
Perez targets anti-gay marriage senators.
In
the new video for Fight Back NY, Perez specifically targets New
York State Senator Ruben Diaz Sr., the Senate's most vocal opponent
of gay marriage.
The political action committee is
working to oust New York senators who voted against a gay marriage
bill last year.
“I'm extremely disappointed with your
position on this matter,” Perez says to Diaz. “With all due
respect, sir, your stand represents a lack of justice and equality on
this issue. Please take note: You are not speaking for the majority
of New York Latinos.”
“Where I'm from, they got this
saying: 'Whatever creams your Twinkie.' You know what I'm saying?
Live and let live,” Perez says. (The video is embedded in the
right panel of this page.)
The group has already claimed victory
against two senators. Hiram Monserrate was defeated in a special
election held in March and primary
voters overwhelmingly picked Tim Kennedy, a pro-gay marriage
candidate, over incumbent Bill Stachowski.

in the City 2 star Cynthia Nixon and Modern
Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, both of whom are openly
gay, in joining the fight to oust senators opposed to gay marriage.
