Openly gay actor Neil Patrick Harris
and his partner, celebrity chef and part-time actor David Burtka, are
expecting twins.
Harris tweeted the news Saturday to his
thousands of followers.
“So, get this: David and I are
expecting twins this fall,” he messaged. “We're super
excited/nervous/thrilled.”
“Hoping the press can respect our
privacy...” he added.
Harris is the leading man of CBS' How
I Met Your Mother. In the situation comedy he plays heterosexual
sex hound Barney. But four years ago, after relentless outing by
celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, the actor announced he's gay.
The thirty-seven-year-old actor has
said he knew he was gay at about fourteen.
In a 2008 interview with gay glossy
Out, Harris talked about being inspired by The Real World:
New Orleans cast member Danny Roberts.
“I think before him I'd never seen
anyone wear [being gay] so comfortably,” he said. “He was around
my age. I could look at him as a role model – if you could say
that, even though he was on a reality show. He represented a way
that I could behave and stand tall comfortably without being an overt
advocate and without being someone hiding in the shadows, I like
that.”
Harris and Burtka entered a domestic
partnership in 2004.
Harris has been nominated for three
Emmy Awards for his work on How I Met Your Mother and a guest
appearance on the Fox musical comedy hit Glee.
