Hillary Clinton met with local
Democratic activists on Monday at the home of a married gay couple in
Iowa.
Dean Genth and Gary Swenson were the
first gay couple to be issued a marriage license at the Cerro Gordo
County Courthouse in 2009 after the Iowa Supreme Court struck down
the state's ban on gay marriage as unconstitutional.
The couple backed President Barack
Obama over Clinton in 2008, according to MSNBC.
Genth is the vice chairman of the Cerro
Gordo County Democratic Party.
The campaign tweeted a photo of Clinton
standing in front of a fireplace surrounded by supporters and called
the stop a “fireside chat.”
Clinton included an engaged
male gay couple in her announcement video. Shortly afterward,
she called on the Supreme
Court to strike down restrictive marriage bans nationwide.
