Out British singer Sam Smith on Thursday released the music video for Lay Me Down off his Grammy-nominated debut album In The Lonely Hour which features two men marrying in a church.

According to Rolling Stone, the video was filmed at the parish church of St. Margaret of Antioch, Lee, outside London.

The video opens with Smith in front of what appears to be a funeral but turns out to be a joyful wedding. (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)

Legislation approved last year legalizing such unions in Britain also prohibits the Church of England from participating.

“Obviously gay marriage isn't legal in churches, and we're doing a gay marriage today, in a church. We're the first ever to do it. It's obviously not a real marriage, but still,” Smith told Rolling Stone.

In a Facebook post announcing the video, Smith added: “This video shows my dream that one day gay men and women and transgendered men and women all over the world, like all our straight families and friends, will be able to get married under any roof, in any city, in any town, in any village, in any country.”
