According to The Hollywood Reporter,
Martin Sheen is returning to series television playing a gay man.
The upcoming Netflix comedy Grace
and Frankie already includes a notable cast, including the
reunion of Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, who co-starred with Dolly
Parton in the classic comedy film 9 to 5.
In the single-camera sitcom,
adversaries Grace (played by Fonda) and Frankie (Tomlin) are
unexpectedly brought together when their husbands announce that they
are getting married to each other.
Sheen (The West Wing) will play
Fonda's husband.
“The women find their lives both
turned upside down and to their dismay, permanently intertwined,”
Netflix said of the comedy. “Eventually, to their surprise, they
find they have each other.”
Netflix chief content officer Ted
Sarandos called the upcoming sitcom “warm, very funny and anything
but wholesome.”
“Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are among
the funniest and most formidable actresses ever and it's an
incredible privilege to give them the opportunity to run riot on
Netflix,” Sarandos said.
A
2015 premiere is planned.
