A Change.org petition is asking
officials at the Grand Ole Opry to invite country singer Chely Wright
back to their stage.
David Dilsizian of Grand Rapids,
Michigan says in his petition that Wright has not appeared on the
Opry stage since she came out lesbian in 2010.
“In the late 90's, after many years
of singing in Nashville, Chely Wright finally rose to the top of the
charts with her number one hit Single White Female. She has
had three other top 10 hits and sold over a million units in the
united states. She first sang at the Opry on September 16th, 1989
and has frequented the stage ever since,” the petition reads.
“Chely Wright came out as a lesbian
in 2010. Since coming out the Country Music Industry hasn't invited
her to perform at any events. I believe The Grand Ole Opry should
invited her back to the stage. It would show how much support she
still has in Nashville. I believe many still recognize her talent
and contribution to the industry.”
As of Wednesday, Dilsizian's
petition had gathered 139 signatures.
