Sir Elton John has credited fatherhood as inspiring him to record 12 songs for his new album in just 3 days.

John and partner David Furnish became dads for a second time in January, welcoming Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John into the family.

The couple, together nearly 20 years, welcomed their first son, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, in 2010, on Christmas Day. The men entered a UK civil partnership in 2005.

The 66-year-old John released his 31st studio album, The Diving Board, on September 13.

In a Good Morning America interview, John said that he wrote and recorded 12 of the album's 15 songs in just 3 days.

“Maybe I felt so relaxed in the studio this time,” John said. “Maybe subconsciously that has something to do with the fact that I have two children who make my life – well I had one when I started and when I finished I had two.”

“I'm probably the happiest guy in the world right now. They've brought more joy to me in the small amount of time that I've had them, which is two years eight months, than anything in my life apart from my partner.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
