Fallon Fox on Friday won her first
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) bout since coming out transgender in March.
According to gay sports blog Outsports,
Fox, 37, took down her opponent, Allanna Jones, in the third round of
her Championship Fighting Alliance 11 fight.
Some boos were heard from the audience
as Fox made her entrance inside the Bank United Center in Coral
Gables, Florida to Aerosmith's Dude Looks Like a Lady.
Speaking to CBS
Miami several days before the fight, Fox said that she was just
part of the evolution of sports.
“Just like blacks in sports, women in
sports, gay people in sports, now it's transsexuals in sports,” she
said.
“This shouldn't be controversial,”
she said, alluding to claims by some people that she should be banned
from fighting other women. “But it is controversial because there
aren't that many people like me.”
While most reaction Fox has received to
her coming out has been positive, some of it has been negative.
“I've received a lot more positive
than negative. The negative responses have been … there have been
a lot of haters out there talking, just spitting a lot of hatred.
I've gotten a few death threats. Some people saying that they want
to beat me up. And good luck to those people,” she
recently said in a CBC Radio interview.
