Seattle-based rapper Macklemore on
Tuesday released the video for his single Same Love.
The music video “shows all the signs
for becoming a new anthem for gay marriage in Washington state,”
wrote Amy Rolph at Big Blog, a blog hosted by the Seattle
Post-Intelligencer.
Same Love, the first single from
Mackelmore's upcoming album The Heist, features singer Mary
Lambert.
“We support civil rights, and hope WA
state voters will APPROVE REF 74 and legalize marriage equality,”
the video's description reads.
In the 7-minute video, a male gay
couple relives the life they shared together as they near the end of
their lives.
In
a video for the group Music for Marriage Equality, Macklemore
said he doesn't get homophobia.
“I grew up with
two gay uncles on Capitol Hill. … I was always around a community
of gay people. … As a hip-hop artist, [being gay is] still a taboo
issue. … There's so much fear, and so much of it dates back to
religion. … I think that we have evolved as a society, and this is
our time to create the change that is right,” he said.
