Chris Pine was chased down by a nearly
naked man shouting “Captain Kirk” during New York City's Gay
Pride celebration last weekend.
The 31-year-old Pine, who is best known
for his role as James T. Kirk in the 2009 film Star Trek, told
the story to Conan O'Brien, host of cabler TNT's late night talk show
Conan.
The actor explained how he wandered
into Gay Pride.
“I didn't realize it was gay pride
day,” Pine said. “It was like 150,000 men all very excited. I
happen to be wearing a tank top because it was hot out ...”
O'Brien jokingly added, “You were
wearing bicycle shorts. … You were wearing a big mustache because
it was hot.”
“And I got chased down the street by
a large ...”
“You got chased the street?”
O'Brien interrupted.
“... by a large man wearing a sock
around his ahhh … shouting Captain Kirk.”
“I think I made it back to the hotel
in 12 minutes.”
“That's so fascinating,” O'Brien
noted. “First of all, that the guy's out just wearing a sock, sees
you and then just has the confidence to just go running after you.”
“Captain Kirk!” Pine said in a
shout-whisper along with a gesture suggesting the man's sock gave way
when he took off running. (The video is embedded in the right panel
