The campaign manager of Colorado State
Rep. Marsha Looper accidentally outed her son as gay.
According to The
Denver Post, Lana Fore-Warkocz forwarded an e-mail to
supporters that praised Looper for voting against a civil unions bill
even though her son is gay.
“I'm very, very disappointed,”
Looper told the paper. “These are very intimate issues. I love my
son. I always will. He has said, 'Mom, I want my privacy.'”
“My opinions, financials and policies
are appropriate discussions for the campaign, however my family
members' personal lives are not a legitimate avenue for my campaign,
or any other campaign to discuss,” Looper said in a statement.
The e-mail praises Looper for
successfully amending the civil unions bill in committee “to
protect religious organizations and different kinds of counselors
from harm for disagreeing with the civil unions provisions had it
passed. (Praise God!)”
“God is truly to be praised for
Marsha Looper because she has a homosexual son.”
The bill died on the House floor when
lawmakers
reached an impasse on the measure as the legislative session came to
an end. It died
a second time in committee during a special session called for by
the governor.
Looper has three children: Rachelle,
Travis and Justin.
