Jenna Talackova, the transgender Miss
Universe Canada contestant, has said she has yet to tell her complete
story.
The 23-year-old Talackova placed in the
top 12 and was one of four women voted “Miss Congeniality” at the
Miss Universe Canada this weekend, ending her bid to enter the Miss
Universe competition.
Talackova was first told she could not
compete in the beauty pageant because she was not born female. The
organization later backtracked. The incident prompted Donald Trump,
the owner of Miss Universe, to
drop the organization's ban on transgender women competing.
Speaking to CNN, Talackova said she was
proud of what she had accomplished.
“For a couple of seconds I was a
little bummed out but after, like, a couple of minutes I was just
extremely happy. I'm so proud of myself,” Talackova told the
network.
She added that she has yet to tell her
complete story.
“I've never told my story fully on my
own terms because … I haven't, but I have let them know a lot about
myself thus far. I did come out with my statement. And that's that
people should embrace their individuality and follow their dreams
like I did,” Talackova said. (The video is embedded in the right
