Cindy McCain, the wife of Republican
Arizona Senator John McCain, has defended Kirk Cameron's right to
speak out on his beliefs.
Cameron has been under fire for
anti-gay comments he made during a recent appearance on CNN's Piers
Morgan Tonight.
The 41-year-old Cameron
told host Piers Morgan that being gay is “detrimental, and
ultimately destructive” and that he would not be supportive if one
of his six sons told him he was gay.

McCain, who in 2010 participated in a
gay rights campaign, appeared last night on Piers Morgan Tonight.
“I got into this issue because of
adoption,” McCain told Morgan. “It seemed ludicrous to me that a
gay couple could adopt and couldn't be married.”
“Did you think that he was being
bigoted, Kirk Cameron? Is it too harsh to say that?”
“It is too harsh,” McCain replied.
“He has his views. He has his beliefs. I respect that. I
strongly disagree with him. But isn't it wonderful here that we can
agree to disagree. And not go to jail for it.” (The video is
