Actor Henry Winkler has compared Marcus Bachmann's attempts to “cure” gay and lesbian people of their sexuality to upholstering furniture.
The 65-year-old Winkler is best known for his role as leather-clad greaser and auto mechanic The Fonz on the 70's sitcom Happy Days.
During an interview on Sirius XM's The Six Pack to pitch his new fly-fishing memoir I've Never Met an Idiot on the River: Reflections on Family, Photography, and Fly-Fishing, Winkler took a swipe at Bachmann, who is married to Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann.
The Christian family clinics run by Bachmann have been accused of attempting to “pray away the gay,” a claim the Bachmanns have not entirely denied. In fact, last week Michele Bachmann suggested that to not offer the therapy would be discriminatory.
“Marcus Bachmann is trying to refurbish [gay people] like sofas!” Winkler said.
He also said he doesn't even think in terms of people's sexuality: “I don't think about a person as gay, I think about them as a human being.”
And he added that he has “wonderful gay fans. Wonderful straight fans. And some very confused fans!”
