In the wake of law firm King & Spalding's decision to withdraw from representing House Republicans in ongoing litigation challenging the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), Tony Perkins, the president of the Christian conservative group Family Research Council (FRC), likened gay men and lesbians to terrorists.
The Atlanta-based firm on Monday announced it would drop the case, prompting partner Paul Clement to jump ship to the Washington-based Bancroft PLLC, where he'll continue to work on the case. House leaders took on the task of defending the law that bans the federal government from recognizing the marriages of gay couples after President Barack Obama announced he would no longer because he believes the law is unconstitutional.
“This has moved from cultural terrorism to corporate terrorism,” Perkins opined during Friday's edition of FRC's Washington Watch radio show. That's what this is. Now, back in the 80's and early 90's I worked with the state department in anti-terrorism and we trained about fifty different countries in defending against terrorism, and it's, at its base, what terrorism is, it's a strike against the general populace simply to spread fear and intimidation so that they can disrupt and destabilize the system of government. That's what the homosexuals are doing here to the legal system.”
