Australian swimmer Stephanie Rice has been dumped by Jaguar over an anti-gay tweet.

The triple Olympic gold medalist tweeted “Suck on that faggots” after the Australian rugby union team, the Wallabies, pulled a come-from-behind victory against South Africa's Springboks on Saturday.

The twenty-two-year old swimmer later apologized, saying she “did not mean to cause offense,” and that she had made her comment “in the excitement of the moment.”

“I did not mean to cause offense, and I apologize,” Rice said in a statement. “I have deleted it from the site.”

The luxury car maker announced late Monday that it had severed ties with Rice.

“Jaguar Australia today terminated its relationship with Stephanie Rice, who has been an ambassador for the Jaguar brand in Australia since the start of 2010,” Kevin Goult, general manager for Jaguar Australia, said in a statement.

Openly gay Australian sports figures disagreed on whether Rice is homophobic. Former rugby league star Ian Roberts called her an “idiot,” but Matthew Mitcham, the 22-year-old Olympic gold medal diver, came to her defense, saying, “I know she's not homophobic because we are good friends.”
