The L Word is returning to Showtime. But don't expect to see Jennifer Beals pussyfooting about; instead the pay cabler is reviving the show as a reality series.

Showtime has greenlit nine episodes of The Real L Word: Los Angeles. The show will follow the lives of six lesbians living in Los Angeles and is expected to debut next year.

Ilene Chaiken, creator of the now departed groundbreaking drama about a group of lesbians living in Los Angeles, will produce the show along with reality producers Magical Elves, Variety reported.

“Even though we concluded our sixth season of The L Word on Showtime this past March, I believe we are not nearly finished telling our L Word stories,” Chaiken told the paper. “Showtime has yet again come forward to continue with us this mission to entertain and enlighten and bring more L to the world.”

Chaiken's L Word empire building does not end there. In July, she hinted that she was in the process of penning an L Word movie. But Chaiken's L Word spinoff, The Farm, which takes place in a women's prison, was passed over by Showtime execs in April.
