Rowan Blanchard, the 14-year-old actress who play Riley Matthews on the Disney Channel's Girl Meets World, came out Friday on Twitter, saying that she identifies as queer.
Blanchard responded to the hashtag #BisexualRileyMatthews2K16, a reference to her character's friendship with another Girl Meets World character, Maya, and the hope for a romantic relationship between the pair.
“@coffeeshoprowan would really be here for this! If not Riley – its vvv important to me, being queer, that there is representation on our show,” Blanchard tweeted.
“& being queer to me just means not putting a label on sexuality – just existing,” she added in a separate tweet.
In Girl Meets World, Blanchard portrays the daughter of Cory and Topanga, who were played by Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, respectively, in the ABC coming-of-age sitcom Boy Meets World. Savage and Fishel reprise their roles in the sequel.
