Army Sargent Bowe Bergdahl said in a recent interview that the Taliban soldiers who were holding him wanted to know whether President Barack Obama is gay.

The Taliban held Bergdahl, 29, for five years after he walked off his U.S. base in Afghanistan in 2009.

He now faces a court martial for desertion and misbehavior.

This season of the podcast Serial tells Bergdahl's story. The broadcast includes telephone interviews filmmaker Mark Boal, who produced the films Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker, recorded with Bergdahl.

In the latest episode, Bergdahl tells how his Taliban guards were curious about the United States.

“They ask you, is Obama gay and sleeps with men?” he said.

He also said he was asked about where U.S. military bases got their prostitutes, alcohol and drugs.

Bergdahl also tells how he twice tried to escape.
