A package of corn tortillas sold in Baja California Sur, Mexico includes homophobic messages.

“Do not let our state approve of the law that allows the 'marriages' between homosexuals,” the paper packaging for El Maizon tortillas states in its legend.

“If approved, homosexuals can adopt children, and the schools will show books with homosexual content to our children.”

The wrapper includes a call to action: “Is this the future we want for our children? Do not keep quiet!! Act!!”

The homophobic message is signed “citizen awareness.”

Mexico's highest court earlier this year ruled against state laws prohibiting gay couples from marrying. District judges are now obligated to grant injunctions to gay couples who are denied a marriage license.

In Baja California Sur, marriage equality advocates are challenging in court the state's restrictive marriage ban.
