Daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres discussed her relationship with wife Portia de Rossi on Sunday's episode of Oprah's Master Class on OWN.

DeGeneres and de Rossi were together four years before they married in 2008 in California.

“I'm in a relationship now where I have equal love. That I love her and she loves me. And we respect each other and we're kind and we're gentle. And as someone once said, 'It's wonderful to be loved, but it's profound to be understood,'” DeGeneres said on the program.

DeGeneres also discussed how her 1997 coming out affected her.

“It became bigger than I ever thought it would be,” she said. “Bigger than I wanted it to be. It overshadowed my talent. It overshadowed who I am as a person.”

“It was only meant to be, you know, just being honest. And it became this snowball, this avalanche, that just got bigger and bigger and bigger. There was no stopping it.”

“It turned into people not liking me, because they thought that I was somehow political all of a sudden. It was the last thing I wanted to do, to be political,” she added.
