British Prime Minister David Cameron says that he supports gay marriage because he believes in family.
Cameron, who is campaigning for another five-year term, strongly supported changing Britain's marriage laws to include gay and lesbian couples.
Gay couples started marrying in Britain and Wales In March. The first same-sex marriages took place last week in Scotland.
Cameron told the Daily Mail that he has yet to attend the wedding of a gay couple.
“Lots of people have invited me and sent me lovely letters saying if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be able to marry the person I love,” he said. “But I haven't been to one yet. I'm sure I will soon.”
When asked whether he did it for libertarian reasons, Cameron answered, “No, I'm not a libertarian.”
“I believe in it as a man who believes in family and marriage. I don't see why gay people who love each other shouldn't be able to as well,” he said.
