Actors Neil Patrick Harris and Chris Pratt are two of the front-runners for the coveted title of People's “Sexiest Man Alive.”

If selected, Harris would become the magazine's first ever openly gay man to win the annual prize.

“People has never had an openly gay Sexiest Man before,” an insider told the New York Daily News. “It would certainly make news and generate buzz for the magazine.”

“Plus, Neil is going to be hosting the Oscars. He's in Gone Girl. He was just on Broadway. He's also happily married with kids. He is having an amazing year,” the insider added.

Chris Pratt, known for playing Andy Dwyer on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, overhauled his image in the hit film Guardians of the Galaxy.

“If he can make blockbuster money, he can sell a ton of magazines is the thinking,” the insider said. “What The Hangover did for Bradley Cooper, this film did for Chris. It's his year.”

Previous winners of the annual feature include Harry Hamlin, Patrick Swayze, Bratt Pitt and Richard Gere. Non-actors who have won the award include John F. Kennedy, Jr. and Adam Levine.
