Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said Thursday that his office will ask the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse an appeals court ruling striking down the state's ban on gay marriage.
A 3-judge panel of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago unanimously upheld lower court rulings declaring bans in Indiana and Wisconsin invalid.

According to the AP, Van Hollen will skip asking the Seventh Circuit for a full review and instead will ask the nation's highest court to reinstate the ban.
Requests from three states – Utah, Oklahoma and Virginia – whose bans have also been overturned are already before the Supreme Court.
