The real-life story of a young gay man rejected by his boyfriend's family arrives on DVD Tuesday.

Bridegroom documents the lives of Shane Bitney Crone and Tom Bridegroom, who met in 2005 and vowed to marry one day, if it became legal.

While Shane's family completely accepted the couple, Tom's family refused to accept that he was gay.

Two years ago, Tom died in a tragic accident and Shane was threatened and banned from the funeral by Tom's family.

The film is directed by Linda Bloodworth Thomason, the creator of the CBS sitcom Designing Women, and was introduced at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, where it won the Heineken Audience Award, by former president Bill Clinton.

Bridegroom emerged from a 10-minute video Crone uploaded last year to YouTube, where it has been viewed more than 4 million times. In IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU, Crone introduces himself and tells his heartbreaking story. (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
