Christian conservative Linda Harvey stated on Monday that gay people seek to “absorb” the personalities of others because they are “vacant” inside.

Harvey, the founder of the Columbus, Ohio-based Mission America and a frequent contributor to the conservative website WND.com, told her radio listeners that former gays report feeling “empty.”

“The labels others put on us do not become who we are unless we have a really shaky sense of our own identity,” Harvey said. “This problem does come up often when those who have left homosexuality talk, for instance, about how they once felt empty, not identifying at all with other boys or girls. Sometimes that results in a person wanting to absorb the personality and identity of another person, even someone of the same sex. Because the vacant feeling inside is so great, a troubled relationship with one's parents can leave a child with that missing element and when others seem to have meaning and purpose, the feelings of self pity can be overwhelming.”
