Behind the Candelabra executive producer Jerry Weintraub is “thrilled” with the 15 Emmy nominations the film received on Thursday.

The HBO Liberace biopic scooped up nominations for stars Michael Douglas and Matt Damon as well as in the Outstanding Miniseries or Movie category.

Weintraub, though, is most grateful for nominations that recognize people who worked behind the scenes.

“All the craft people are nominated, and that made very happy,” Weintraub told TheWrap.com. “The behind-the-scenes people – costume people, makeup people, set designers, casting – everybody who worked on this movie is being recognized, and I am thrilled about that.”

HBO picked up the movie after traditional movie studios passed on the project, saying that it lacked appeal beyond a gay audience.

“HBO was the right place for it, because they supported us from day one,” Weintraub said. “They were so supportive of us and helped so much through this whole project … everyone was so dedicated.”
