Oscar picks for actor Mario Cantone, who is best known for playing Anthony Marentino on HBO's Sex in the City, include Sean Penn playing Cher, Brad Pitt and Rihanna's performance in Battleship.

Cantone picked his favorites during an appearance on ABC's The View.

He decried the Academy for not including Rihanna's Battleship performance along with Sally Field, Anne Hathaway, Jacki Weaver, Helen Hunt and Amy Adams in the Best Supporting Actress category.

“Good film based on a board game. I got a part in the new Hungry Hungry Hippos movie,” Cantone quipped. “Chris Christie's playing my father.”

In the Best Supporting Actor category, Cantone dismissed nominees Christoph Waltz, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robert De Niro, Alan Arkin and Tommy Lee Jones, saying he could not decide between Alec Baldwin and Tom Cruise in Rock of Ages.

“Tom knows acting. Look at the women he married. All three very talented, all very convincing in the role of his wife,” he joked.

Cantone gave his best actress nod not to Naomi Watts, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, Emmanuelle Riva or Quvenzhane Wallis, but to Sean Penn playing Cher in This Must Be The Place.

“Why wasn't she singing? I wanted her to sing,” he said.

Cantone said Brad Pitt's performance in a Channel ad towered over those of best actor nominees Daniel Day-Lewis, Denzel Washington, Hugh Jackman, Bradley Cooper and Joaquin Phoenix.

And none of the best picture nominees – Beasts and the Southern Wild, Silver Linings, Zero Dark Thirty, Lincoln, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, Amour, Django Unchained and Argo – measured up to Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Cantone said.
