In responding to President Barack Obama's inclusion of gay rights in his inaugural address, Bryan Fischer of the Christian conservative American Family Association (AFA) described Obama as “ignorant about homosexuality.”

Obama strung together the gay rights movement with the civil rights movement and the suffrage movement, marking the first time a president has addressed gay rights in an inauguration speech.

Obama cited Stonewall, the birthplace of the gay rights movement, and stated that “if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well.”

Fischer told his Focal Point radio listeners that “homosexuals do not have a constitutional right to engage in sodomy” any more than people have a right to engage in pedophilia, incest and bestiality.

“All men are created equal but nobody, nobody, nobody is created gay,” Fischer said. “Nobody's born that way. So men are created equal but none of those men are created gay. That's a sexual preference. That has to do with the sexual choices they make. And so, President Obama is betraying here an appalling level of ignorance about genetics and about biology. … He doesn't know what he's talking about. It's embarrassing really for him to betray this level of ignorance before the entire world.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
