One of the season's most high-profile gay series, Partners, has been canceled.

CBS pulled the plug on Friday after airing six episodes including the show's September premiere.

The series from Will & Grace creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick was 4 years in development and inspired by their lifelong friendship and business relationship. Partners starred Michael Urie (Ugly Betty) as Louis, whose friendship with business partner Joe (David Krumholt) is tested when Louis gets a new boyfriend (Brandon Routh) and Joe gets engaged to Ali (Sophia Bush).

The Monday night sitcom's final November 12 episode drew an audience of 5.5 million viewers, according to TVByTheNumbers.com. Monday night ratings champ Dancing with the Stars, by comparison, drew an audience of nearly 14 million viewers.

The New Normal, which features a gay couple (played by Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha) trying to start a family and the surrogate mother (Georgia King) who comes to their aid, is expected to return for a second season.

“Thanks for the love and support!” Urie tweeted to his more than 61,000 followers. “#Partners will have a special place in my heart, and the best part was how much y'all liked it.”
