Chris Barron and Jimmy LaSalvia, co-founders of the gay GOP group GOProud, have said they support gay marriage.

At the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Tampa last week, Republicans ratified a party platform which includes support for a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as a heterosexual union. Such an amendment would invalidate gay marriage laws in six states and the District of Columbia.

In a BuzzFeed video recorded Thursday at GOProud's RNC Homocon party, Barron and LaSalvia said they believe the institution is important to gay people.

“I happen to be a pro-life social conservative,” LaSalvia said. “I happen to think that marriage is good for people. Marriage is good for families and communities. And I think it's good for gay people too.”

“Personally, I'm very for gay marriage 'cause I'm actually married to another gay man in Washington, D.C.,” Barron said. “So, personally, I'm very for it.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)

Last year, conservative celebrity Ann Coulter claimed she had talked GOProud “out of their gay marriage plank.”

“You're welcome, America,” she added.
