Old Dominion University will offer separate housing for students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

Under the Norfolk, Virginia university's “living learning communities” initiative, which groups students of similar interests together, gay students will be given their own set of dorm rooms, WTKR.com reported.

However, some students said they did not believe the living arrangement was such a great idea.

“I don't think it's a good concept, just singling them out and sticking them all together,” said Sally, a junior at the school. “Just because you're gay is not gonna make you have things in common with them, same as anybody else.”

“Everybody knows exactly who you are,” said Jourdan, a freshman at Old Dominion. “It's just calling yourself out.”

The students will receive a set of 9 dorm rooms inside of a residence hall with other students.

Old Dominion was established in 1930 and has an enrollment of over 24,000 students.
