Singer Sir Elton John and his partner
David Furnish will be honored later this month for their activism.
The couple will receive the 2014
National Equality Award at the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) National
Dinner on Saturday, October 25 in Washington, D.C.
“We are truly excited to honor such
influential international AIDS activists and philanthropists at this
year's national dinner,” HRC President Chad Griffin said in a
statement. “As we celebrate the progress we've made over the last
year while focusing on what we have yet to accomplish, their life's
work inspires us as we keep moving forward for equality.”
HRC added that the couple was “changing
hearts and minds by living openly and honestly.”
Sir John and Furnish are also
considered two of the world's most recognizable AIDS activists.
The British singer's Elton John AIDS
Foundation was founded in 1992 and has raised hundreds of millions of
dollars in support of projects in dozens of countries around the
world.
Keynoting this year's dinner will be
former
President Bill Clinton.
