It isn't gay marriage that is ruining
marriage, but folks such as Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, say
Kathy Griffin, John Aravosis and others.
Just 72 days after marrying NBA star
Humphries, 26, in a lavish wedding reported to have cost $10 million,
Kardashian, the 31-year-old star of Keeping Up With The
Kardashians, filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court on
Monday. She cited irreconcilable differences.
The couple married after dating for
about 9 months. Their August wedding was documented in a two part
television special watched by more than 4 million U.S. viewers titled
Kim's Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event.
“After careful consideration, I have
decided to end my marriage,” Kardashian said in a statement. “I
hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped
this marriage was forever but sometimes things don't work out as
planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”
In the Twitterverse, some connected the
short-lived marriage back to marriage equality.
“Ugh! Gay couples like Kim K &
Kris H ruining the sanctity of marriage is the problem w the radical
homosexual agend – oh wait, oops :),” messaged comedian Kathy
Griffin.
“If you are gay and demand equality
ban the kardashian show, just stop watching it, help make this all go
away!” Sandra Bernhard tweeted.
Political blogger John Aravosis added:
“Kim Kardashian earned $17,900,000 from her wedding and divorced 72
days later (but gays ruin the sanctity of marriage).”
And singer Chely Wright, who recently
married her girlfriend, asked: “So, I'm not being snarky, but this
is a serious question about wedding etiquette: Do Kim and Kris have
to return all of the wedding gifts?”
Jonathan Capehart at The Washington
Post added: “Blocking gay men and lesbians who want to join the
revered institution of marriage so that the Kardashians of the world
can cheapen it further is shortsighted, unjust and wrong.”
