Jon Stewart has mocked Pat Robertson's
call for GOP candidates to tone down their rhetoric.
During his Tuesday opening monologue of
Comedy Central's The Daily Show, Stewart played various clips
from GOP presidential candidates, including Mitt Romney, Michele
Bachmann, Ron Paul, Herman Cain, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and
Rick Perry, then whispered, “They're all saying crazy things.”
Coming to his aide was Pat Robertson,
who said on his 700 Club:
“Those people in the Republican primary have got to lay off this
stuff.”
A bewildered
Stewart rhetorically asked, “Is that Pat 'gay people cause
hurricanes' Robertson expressing concern for how extreme the
Republican Party has gotten?”
“Pat 'Liberals
are akin to Nazis' Robertson believes that the Republicans are
staking out a position that may be unappealingly extreme?”
Stewart explained
that Robertson wasn't disagreeing with the GOP candidates, he simply
wanted them to hush up.
“Keep that our
little secret,” Stewart argued for Robertson. “If you tell
people what we honestly believe, an electoral majority of those
people will freak the fuck out.”
