A Chicago-area Christian school was
vandalized on Saturday, hours before anti-gay Scott Lively was to be
honored.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported
that the Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights was damaged
during an early morning attack. Police said vandals broke a window
and a glass door panel.
A group going by the pseudonym of
“PISSED” claimed responsibility in a statement.
“[W]e put two chunks of concrete
through the glass windows and doors … We did this because at 6PM
today they will be hosting an event organized by the homophobic hate
group Americans for Truth About Homosexuality that will be presenting
an award to Scott Lively.”
“These chunks of concrete were thrown
through these windows and doors for two reasons: to show that there
is a consequence for hatred and homophobia in our community and to
directly cause this event to shut down. If this event is not shut
down, and the homophobic day trainings do not end, the Christian
Liberty Academy will continue to be under constant attack.”
Lively, the founder of Abiding Truth
Ministries and the president of Defend the Family International, has
argued that gay
rights are dangerous and has admitted that he traveled to Uganda
to give testimony in favor of an anti-gay measure which includes a
death penalty provision for people who repeatedly engage in gay sex
and those who are HIV-positive.
At the annual banquet, Lively was
presented with the group's American Truth Teller award.
