Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars opposite Seth Rogen in the comedy 50/50, which opened in theaters nationwide on Friday.

In the film, Gordon-Levitt plays Adam, a young man who in the course of seeking treatment for back pains is diagnosed with a rare type of cancer and is prescribed chemotherapy to reduce the tumor.

Screenwriter Will Reiser penned the script loosely based on his own experience battling cancer.

Rogen, who plays best friend Kyle, recently said audiences will be surprised at how good Gordon-Levitt looks bald.

β€œI think they'll be surprised at how good Joseph looks bald,” Rogen said during an interview with gay male entertainment website AfterElton.com. β€œHe looks very good bald. Some people can't pull that off.”

Reiser added that he wanted to write a film that depicted the reality of cancer though the eyes of a young man, including the fact that an increasing number of people are beating the disease. (A trailer for the movie is embedded in the right panel of this page.)
