Sara Gilbert, co-host of CBS' The
Talk, choked up on Friday discussing her split from Glee
writer Allison Adler.
During a panel discussion on marriage,
an emotional Gilbert opened up for the first time publicly about her
recently-ended 10-year relationship.
“I've never been married, but I was
in a long relationship,” said the 36-year-old Gilbert. “It's
emotional for me, because we're not together. I wouldn't trade that
time … it's such a special time in my life. … But then you see
people in their 70s and you wonder … how do they do it? How do
they make it last? And I would like to think that I can.”
Gilbert went on to mention their
children, six-year-old son Levi and four-year-old daughter Sawyer.
“I will say that we have beautiful
children together, a lot of love for each other,” she said. “You
do continue in the next chapter together in a different way.” (The

Gilbert is best known for her portrayal
of Darlene Conner-Healy on the ABC sitcom Roseanne, which
starred comedian Roseanne Barr as her mother. Adler, 44, joined Glee
after writing stints at the NBC sitcom Chuck and ABC's quickly
canceled science fiction drama No Ordinary Family.
