Andy Pugno, the lead attorney for
ProtectMarriage, has urged Prop 8 supporters to pray for the safety
of lawyers against “hordes of homosexual activists” as they make
their way into a California Supreme Court hearing later today.
Proposition 8, the 2008 voter-approved
amendment to the California Constitution which overturned the high
court's ruling legalizing gay marriage in the state, returns to court
on Tuesday.
At issue is whether ProtectMarriage,
the coalition of mostly Christian groups which put Proposition 8 on
the ballot, has the legal standing to pursue an appeal in federal
court of last year's ruling which declared the amendment
unconstitutional.
According to gay
blog JoeMyGod, Pugno made his remarks in a press release.
“Please join us, and thousands of
other supporters, in prayer this evening and tomorrow morning for
safety as our Legal Team pushes through the hoards [sic] of
homosexual activists into the courthouse in the heart of San
Francisco, and for the wisdom and grace needed to prevail in court,”
Pugno wrote.
