Peter LaBarbera's Americans for Truth
About Homosexuality has lost its tax-exempt status.
LaBarbera has confirmed reports that
his Naperville, Illinois-based group's tax status has changed.
“Americans for Truth About
Homosexuality is working to comply fully with IRS regulations,
whether we end up as a 501(c)3, c-4, or LLC,” LaBarbera wrote on
his website. “As always, we will endeavor to report information on
the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender) movement that is
ignored by the liberal, pro-homosexual 'mainstream' media.
Currently, per notification by the IRS received by AFTAH on June 10,
2011, donations to Americans for Truth are not tax-deductible.”
According
to Ex-Gay Watch, the group lost its status as a 501(c)3
tax-exempt organization after failing to file “a Form 990, 990-EZ,
990-N or 990-PF for 3 consecutive years.”
A form for the year 2009 shows
LaBarbera received a salary of $75,000.
The Southern Poverty Law Center last
year listed Americans for Truth About Homosexuality as a hate group.
LaBarbera's group is working to repeal
Illinois' recently approved civil unions law and amend the state
constitution to define marriage as a heterosexual union.
