Adam Lambert's rumored sexuality during
American Idol and his eventual coming out gay included in
cabler VH1's Behind the Music special.
Lambert, who
recently tied with Chris Daughtry for a second place finish on
Forbes' list of top-earning American
Idols, is featured in the Sunday, August 7 episode of Behind
the Music.
And in a clip released on Tuesday,
Lambert talks about the media hype concerning his sexuality that
appeared to engulf the reality show's eighth season.
“The article was speculating whether
or not I was gay or not, and whether or not America would vote for a
gay idol,” Lambert says, referring to an Entertainment Weekly
cover story published as the contest between himself and Kris Allen
was coming to a close.
“I remember reading it going, 'Why
does it matter? But I guess it does.'”
“It was pretty crazy,” Lambert
adds.
Later in the clip, Lambert says he has
nothing to hide.
“I wouldn't want to go through my
career hiding anything or trying to cover something up. It's just
not my style. Sexuality is so sensationalized. Like everybody feels
they have to label it and call it out. And I'm proud of it. I'm
proud of my sexuality. I have no hangups. I have no shame. But for
me, it's not about wearing a t-shirt saying 'gay,'” he says, then
adds, “It's Adam.” (The video is embedded in the right panel of
