Clay Aiken, Lance Bass and Wanda Sykes
will guest star in an episode of cabler Lifetime's Drop Dead Diva
inspired by Constance McMillen's real life story.
McMillen is the lesbian high school
student who last year sued
her Mississippi school board after officials canceled the annual
prom dance rather than allow her to attend with her girlfriend.
She was awarded $35,000 in damages plus
attorneys' fees and the board agreed to adopt a policy prohibiting
discrimination based on sexual orientation.
The teen has said that her family's
support helped her get through the ordeal.
McMillen's brush with discrimination is
the inspiration behind Drop Dead Diva's upcoming episode
titled The Prom, lesbian
entertainment website AfterEllen.com reported.
In the episode, attorney Jane (played
by Brooke Elliott) takes action against a school system that won't
let two girls attend prom together. A preview of the episode shows
Sykes playing a sassy judge and a brief cameo by McMillen as a guard.
The Prom airs this Sunday on
Lifetime at 9PM.
