On
the Friday edition of Fox News' nascent talk show The Five,
Andreas Tantaros called California's gay history bill “brainwashing.”
California Governor Jerry Brown on
Thursday signed the measure which mandates the inclusion of the
historical contributions of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender
Americans in the state's textbooks.
Starting as early as the 2013-2014
school year, the FAIR Education Act, sponsored by state
Senator Mark Leno, a Democrat, requires the California Board of
Education and local school districts to include the curriculum in
their lesson plans.
Opponents of the bill, who've called it
an attack on the family, on Friday announced they have started the
process for a statewide vote to overturn the law. Supporters of the
law say it will help ease the bullying gay teens face in the
classroom.
When Bob Beckel said he supported the
measure – “The fact is that gays have been oppressed for years
and years in this country, and there's no reason why they can't have
a history lesson on the Stonewall demonstrations downtown here.” –
Eric Bolling pushed back: “That's not what this is.”
“This is California rewriting the
textbooks, the history books, saying, 'By the way, George Washington
was a homosexual,' or, you know, so-and-so was a lesbian,” Bolling
said. “That's what they want to do.”
“The fact of the matter is there has
been a long history of oppression against gays and they have
contributed enormously to the history of this country and what's
wrong with teaching it?” Beckel asked.
Tantaros skipped over Beckel's question
to pick up where Bolling had left off: “And they're starting even
younger now. They're starting even younger now to control your kids,
brainwash them.”
