Openly gay actor Cheyenne Jackson says
he's ready to marry his partner of 11 years, Monte Lapka.
In
remarks with gay glossy Frontiers made before gay marriage
was legalized in New York, Jackson's home state, the 35-year-old
actor said he's ready to marry Lapka.
“At the time, when we became domestic
partners last year, we were filling out some forms for life insurance
or wills or something and we thought we should make this as legal as
we can,” Jackson said. “I'd love to marry him. I think we will
when it's legal.”
Jackson plays Dustin Goolsby, the
musical coach of rival team Vocal Adrenaline, on the Fox
musical-comedy Glee and Danny Baker on the NBC sitcom 30
Rock.
Jackson added that being closeted was
never an option.
“I just think it frees you as an
actor,” he said of coming out, “as a performer, as a person when
you can just truly be who you are and get that shit out of the way
and then people can focus on what's really important – and that's
you, that's you as an actor, that's what you bring to the part,
that's you making the material live.”
Jackson can be seen in the film Green,
which premieres at Outfest next week.
