Ice cream makers Jerry Greenfield and
Ben Cohen have joined the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) New Yorkers
for Marriage Equality campaign.
“We became friends in junior high
school in Merrick, Long Island and we support marriage equality,”
Cohen says in the 30-second video ad released Thursday.
“You know marriage is like good ice
cream,” Greenfield says. “It brings out the joy no matter which
flavor you get.”
“Quality is good for ice cream.
Equality is good for the soul” Cohen says.
“Come on, join us, support marriage
equality,” Greenfield says.
“It's the right thing to do,” Cohen
adds. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page.)
The lifelong friends founded
Burlington, Vermont-based Ben & Jerry's ice cream in 1978.
The businessmen are the latest to join
the growing list of celebrities, professional athletes, prominent
politicians and everyday folks to record a video for the campaign
that began last year.
But with less than 2 weeks left in the
legislative session, the push to make New York the sixth state to
legalize gay marriage this year is running out of time.
