Donald Trump's relationship with the
gay community is becoming increasingly puzzling.
Between firing two contestants on
Sunday night's Celebrity Apprentice, the real-estate mogul
suggested being gay is wonderful just weeks after saying he doesn't
feel good about marriage or unions for gay and lesbian couples.
In the boardroom – after firing
singer La Toya – Trump told rocker Meat Loaf that he looked good.
“You look good tonight, Meat Loaf,
you look good,” Trump said. “You are so much more handsome, you
know, I am not a gay man, I think gayness is wonderful frankly, but I
am not a gay man. You seem so much more good looking, what the fuck
did you do?”
The rumored 2012 GOP presidential
candidate's television remarks belie those he's made in recent
interviews.
In
recent comments to The
New York Times, the 64-year-old compared gay marriage to a
new kind of “unattractive” and “weird” golf putter.
“It's like in golf,” Trump said.
“A lot of people — I don’t want this to sound trivial — but a
lot of people are switching to these really long putters, very
unattractive. It’s weird. You see these great players with these
really long putters, because they can’t sink three-footers anymore.
And, I hate it. I am a traditionalist. I have so many fabulous
friends who happen to be gay, but I am a traditionalist.”
