UK rugby star Gareth Thomas has said
last Friday's royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, who
are now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, was “a bit of a dream.”
Singer Elton John and his partner,
filmmaker David Furnish, and Thomas were among the 1,900 guests of
the Queen who attended the Westminster Abbey ceremony. In a news
agency photo, Sir Elton, who
recently became a father, is seen tearing up during the ceremony.
“It was an amazing experience,”
Thomas told a reporter. “There was a time during the service when
I sat there, had a little look around, seen the dignitaries over
there, seen the heroes over there, the place I was in and it just
brought goose bumps on the back of my neck to think that I'm a part
of something so amazing.”
“You know, actually being there
really brought the role true, it was kind of like a bit of a dream,”
he added. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page.)
The 36-year-old, 6-foot-3 Thomas came
out gay in 2009. In a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres
Show, he
told his host that he once “prayed to be straight.”
